Overhead Door Company of Macon is opened and begins operations under the leadership of Overhead Door Company of Greenville (SC).

Our company is sold to one of its employees, Bill Raines. Starting with a team of only five technicians and an office staffer, Bill will be our team’s fearless leader for 50 years.

Our company grows as more commercial operators choose to rely on the exceptional quality of Overhead Door Company’s rolling steel doors for security.

We move from our original location on Melrose Street to our current facility on Macon West Drive.

We continue to grow as our residential door offerings become an increasingly popular option for Middle Georgia homeowners.

We are awarded a contract to replace more than 230 rollings steel door and security grilles on Robins Air Force Base. Thanks to our skill and expertise, we complete the 18-month job in ten months.

After 45 years of dedicated service, Bill steps down as our leader. His son, William, a long-time member of the team, steps into his father’s shoes as owner and operator.
About Overhead Door Company
We literally invented the modern garage door. Like so many other industries, ours emerged from the sudden popularity of a new technology: the automobile. Drivers around the world began building new structures or converting existing barns and other outbuildings to house their expensive new vehicles.
These new “garages” needed doors. At the time, that meant wide, heavy doors hung on hinges that swung outward. Swing doors, while conventional, were usually impractical. They could be blocked by snow, grass, or debris. They sagged under their own weight, eventually failing when the load overcame the hinges. A new solution was needed.
In 1921, CG Johnson and Overhead Door Corp. introduced a revolutionary product to the market—a door consisting of hinged panels installed on a track that allowed the whole door to be lifted into a horizontal storage position overhead. Thus, the modern garage door was born.
Since then, Overhead Door Company has been the nation’s leader in providing homes and businesses with secure, rugged garage doors that provide lasting protection and curb appeal.
